Okay, first time being here and I have a question about client-side mods, would they be things like adding different character hairs, colors, accessories etc.?

Client-side mods are mods that only change things for you, such as different background music, a custom SAIL etc.

Mods that add new assets, such as species mods or custom workstations are incompatible with multiplayer.

General rule of thumb is, check the mod page if it says the mod is multiplayer compatible or not, if it does not say anything about it, ask yourself if it adds new assets or not.
We also have a Mod Showcase of mods that are 100% compatible with the server.

    Hope this helped!

Server-Side Mods Are Mods That Change Things For Everyone In The Server

Client-Side Mods Are Mods That Change Things For The Client Only In Other Words They Apply For Only The Person Using Them\

If A Mod Adds Assets It Is A Single-Player Mod

Pro-tip i play on OS X so i use unstable while opt-out for multiplayer and use regular for single-player
